Peak District Climbing - Grit Stone, Best Starter Crags

Updated: Jan 21, 2019

Grit Stone Climbing in the Peak is amazing. Grit stone is one of the most varied rock types in the world. Due to it actually being a type of very hard sandstone, over thousands of years it has been eroded by the weather into incredibly unique shapes and thus creates some of the best and most interesting climbing in the UK. It has been dubbed 'Gods own rock' and has attracted world class climbers for years to come over and test their skills on this truly unique rock type. Grit Stone not only provides amazing Traditional climbing but also a life times worth of bouldering and if all that doesn't sound great enough already, it is incredibly accessible as most of the crags are only 5 mins walking distance from a car.
